(Ok, so this isn't really "other software", but it is directly
related to LAM/MPI)
IMPI is an industrial-led effort to create a standard to enable
interoperability of different implementations of the Message
Passing Interface. The LAM Team has been working on implementing
IMPI extensions to LAM, and will release an IMPI-enabled LAM as version
6.4.
The main IMPI home page is located at the National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST):

The IMPI server, which is necessary in the startup phase of an
IMPI job, is available from the Open Systems Laboratory at Indiana
