Lam Users,

I'm trying to install lam-mpi (v. 7.1.4) on a Windows box running Cygwin:
System: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (32 bit) T5550 (1.83 GHz); 2.0 GB memory
Windows Vista Home Premium -- Service Pack 2
                  Cygwin 1.5.25-15

On p. 28 of the LAM-MPI Installation Guide (PDF version) it states (for a Cygwin environment) that "...the IPC services are provided by the CygIPC module. It is necessary to have this module installed to build the sysv and usysv RPIs. Specifically, these RPI modules are built if and only if (emphasis added) libcygipc.a is found and ipc-daemon2.exe is running when configuring LAM/MPI."

After an extensive search, I finally found (the most recent) version 2.03 of CygIPC (dated 2004 and stated by its author: "CygIPC has been deprecated."). Unfortunately, the installation instructions are completely out-of-date/irrelevant and a Google search revealed no source of potential help on CygIPC. Nonetheless, I modified the Makefile included with it and believe it installed. However, it is not clear to me how to run ipc-daemon2 as a service in the Windows environment -- so I tried the method in the README but it failed to execute. I then ran it from a bash shell command line and an ipc-daemon2 process was initiated. However, when I began the LAM install, I got a couple of (evidently fatal) WARNINGs that 'SYSV semaphore and shared memory support could not be detected on my system' and the installation failed (I was unable to boot LAM).

I've search the LAM-MPI Faqs and Mailing List Archives, but haven't found any relevant information on how to make LAM install properly in a Cygwin environment. If anyone has had experience doing this, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or instructions on what to try next. Thanks in advance!
