"I’m just wondering if anyone in your group (or associated with it) has
dealt specifically with PHITS or if JAEA simply acquired your software
package on their own."

I've never dealt with PHITS or JAEA, but it -sounds- as if a part of the
code was written to be parallelized with LAM. That basically means that
LAM software must be installed on your workstation, that the code must
be compiled with a LAM command (probably written into the makefile) and
that most likely it must be executed with a LAM command. In addition,
before execution, a LAM working environment must be present on the
workstation. All this is explained at the LAM site
http://www.lam-mpi.org/using/docs/, where you can get a users guide.
