As Konrad said, the beta contains only minor bug fixes, the list of
which can be found here:

   http://www.lam-mpi.org/svn/new.php

The issue that is causing you problems is the square bracket eating
causing main to be mis-declared in our autoconf tests.

The release hasn't been formally done mainly due to time constraints.
Jeff and I both have full-time jobs now, which don't pay for LAM
work. So it's one of those things we do when we have a free couple of
minutes. Normally, I'd just include the patch, but the build system
has a number of dependencies that must be met when it changes, which
makes this patch slightly problematic.
