Mmm... my recollection of how the LAM code works in this area is
sketchy at best.

I *think* it generally means that LAM is unable to find its support
files (e.g., the help file, the default process schema file for the
lamd, etc.). One additional thing to check in addition to the "usual"
stuff: check to see if NFS mount points have changed such that /foo/
bar/baz is now /yow/bar/baz (i.e., LAM is still looking in /foo/bar/
baz, which no longer exists). It's unfortunately not printing out the
actual filename that it's looking for (there is a bug in the code that
results in always showing "(null)" in this case) -- a "lamboot -d"
might show more info...?

One disclaimer -- I don't know if later versions of LAM 7.1.x fixed
problems in this area or not (i.e., I don't recall). I took a *quick*
look through the HISTORY file and didn't see anything that jumped out
at me that might be a correction for this kind of problem. But I
can't say this conclusively. However, if 7.1.1 has been working for a
long time for you and suddenly stopped working, it seems like that
something changed in your environment (based on your wording, I think
you have come to the same conclusion). I wish I had better advise on
where to look, but the mount points suggestion is the best that I can
come up with. :-\
