LAM/MPI uses Argonne's ROMIO package to implement the MPI-2 I/O
chapter, although it unfortunately uses a very old version. The
version shipped with LAM/MPI has support for a variety of underlying
filesystems and I believe others like GFS are supported by using the
NFS device.
