While checking into the OS X problem from the prior thread, I ran
across a bug in LAM's configure that I can't believe has lived for so
long. It results in a bunch of configure test programs being compiled
as:

     int main(int argc, char* argv)

This choked the C++ tests.

Attached is a trivial patch.
