what I installed is the LAM-MPI (version 7.1.4), donwloaded from its website. The hboot is binary executable. I can make sure that the back-end nodes are installed basic linux commands such as mkdir, rm, etc.

>Does /tmp exist and is it writable? What does running "hboot -d"

/tmp exists in all the nodes. The outputted information of "hboot -d" directly run in back-end nodes is as follows:

anching_at_anqin-desktop:~$ hboot -d
hboot: booting...
hboot: fork /usr/local/bin/lamd
hboot: attempting to execute
[1] 19457 lamd -d
anching_at_anqin-desktop:~$ -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The booted program is missing at least one of the -H, -P, or -n
command line arguments. These arguments are required to tell the
booted program how to contact the booting agent.

Cannot continue. Sorry.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know how to do "running 'hboot -d' manually on the back-end node (interactively or via ssh)". The screen dump of directly running in back-end is mentioned above. And then, I logined the back-end node by ssh,

1. login back-end node by ssh:
$ myssh 192.168.8.55
2. After login successfully, run the "hboot -d" in shell,
$ hboot -d

$hboot -d
hboot: booting...
hboot: fork /usr/local/bin/lamd
hboot: attempting to execute
[1] 20291 lamd -d
anching_at_anqin-desktop:~$ lamd kernel: problem with bind (/tmp/lam-unknown_at_anqin-desktop/lam-kernel-socket): Address already in use

>Do you get a lamd running?

Hmm.. . I don't know. I run the mpi environment according to the user.pdf released with lam-7.1.4.tar.gz. Does the lamd have to be run before "lamboot"?
All the problems I met are in the first stage when I run the lamboot .

could anybody give me some advices?

Thanks in advance,
Ann
