It is not possible to change the underlying compiler from g77 to
gfortran. There are certain, limited instances where such changes
can be made to an already built and installed version of LAM/MPI.
However, g77 and gfortran have different name mangling rules, so they
are essentially not link-compatible. Your only option is to rebuild
LAM/MPI with gfortran instead of g77.
