FWIW:
1. A little googling before asking on a public mailing list is always
a Good Thing(tm), even for a "noob". :-)
2. The reason that some LAM questions go unanswered for a while
usually involves one or more of the following factors (not all apply
here -- just trying to share our thought processes):
- The question has been asked several (many?) times before, such
that a little googling would give you the answer.
- The question is obviously a homework problem (we don't answer
these at all).
- The question is not for LAM/MPI (e.g., it's for another MPI
implementation -- like this question)
- The question is complicated and will take some time to research
and come up with a Correct answer.
- We are spending 99% of our time these days on Open MPI. LAM/
MPI is quite definitely in a maintenance mode, so LAM questions are
definitely a lower priority (we've been quite open about this). We
do our best, but please remember that our bosses pay us for working
on other things -- LAM work is all a spare-time kind of endeavor.
Please bear with us. LAM users have been *very* supportive in
helping common questions, and we are *EXTREMELY* grateful.
In particular, I want to stress that #1 can save you much time.
Googling for the error message on this thread, for example, shows
many many MPICH references -- no LAM references (the "p4" shown in
the error message is a subsystem of MPICH, not LAM/MPI).
Specifically: this user is clearly using MPICH, not LAM/MPI. So we
can't help, anyway. I would suggest checking the MPICH documentation
and/or mailing the MPICH support lists.
Good luck!
