That I do not understand. I just tried this on my machine:

a) the lamb-host.def file is:
127.0.0.1 cpu=34

(I sure do not have 34 CPUs; the 34 is just the number of procs I'd
like to have in there which, in your case, you probably want to be a
16).

b) lamboot -v lamb-host.def
lamboot -v lamb-host.def

LAM 7.1.1/MPI 2 C++/ROMIO - Indiana University

n-1<3264> ssi:boot:base:linear: booting n0 (127.0.0.1)
n-1<3264> ssi:boot:base:linear: finished

c) lamnodes:

n0 localhost:34:origin,this_node

So I can definitely see the 34 above. (For that matter, any arbitrary
positive integer).

So, somehow, you are starting a universe that is only using a CPU. Are
you sure your lamboot is really using the file you are giving it? When
you call lamboot, is the file "hostfile" properly called (does it live
in the directory you are using, or are you using the full path to that
file)?

Best,

R.
