The usual procedure was to install the static pthreads libraries (which
came in a patch for rh9) and build lam mpi from source with the desired
options. As the g++ which came with rh9 is totally obsolete, along with
those other factors, it would seem advisable at least to build and
install a current g++ before building lam, where again, a more current
version would be preferable. Wouldn't it be simpler to use a recent distro?
