Thanks Ralf. A C++ include path was in fact missing. The compiler cannot find the
<bits/c++config.h> file. That's strange, I did not faced this problem
with lam-7.1.1 on the same arch/system. As one could expect, the workaround
was to introduce by hand at configure time a -I/usr/include/c++/3.4.3/i386-redhat-linux.
