Gurhan -

I respectfully disagree. Simply read the boot options for LAM and
you'll see there are several alternatives to rsh/ssh including the tm
module, globus, and bproc none of which use rsh/ssh connectivity. This
is detailed in the LAM 7.x user guides.

As to why ssh is not a viable option - it is not a security concern.
The administrators of the environment wish to deny users direct access
to computation hosts to force them to use the workload management system
(LSF in this case). Many people on this list have voiced their
objections to such a decision, and many times I agree with them, but my
aquiecense or dissent is immaterial. A "no login" environment is what
we are faced with.

I hope that makes the question clearer. Thanks very much for thinking
about it and taking the time to respond.

Subject: Re: LAM: lamboot without rsh/ssh

I don't understand why ssh is not a viable option? The newer versions
of lam/mpi still requires either SSH or RSH for lamboot to be able to
work, yes.

If you think ssh will be an option and want to set up ssh between nodes
so that they can communicate over ssh without passwords, refer to :
http://www.arches.uga.edu/~pkeck/ssh/ or just look it up at google.

thanks,
gurhan
