I think it wasn't so much "failed" as "no one got around to it" :-(.

Right. I appreciated the contact, but it turned out that neither of us
had the resources to do it. At this point, although I am technically no
longer a LAM/MPI maintainer (since I am no longer at Indiana
University), I think I can safely state that all effort is being put
into Open MPI these days, not LAM. So if a future effort is to include
LSF tighter integration, the preferred vehicle would be Open MPI, not
LAM/MPI.
