I think I should clarify a couple of things here:

This (the shipping of Libtool 1.5.22 bootstrapped with CVS Autoconf and
Automake) was Libtool's fault (my fault, in fact).
Still, I think the package should work on binmode mounts, as followed
up:

Sorry about that very confusing wording. I did not mean to imply any
