You should be able to download BLCR from here:
http://ftg.lbl.gov/CheckpointRestart/CheckpointRestart.shtml

BLCR should work fine with a 2.4 kernel. Take a look at their
documentation, as it is very informative.

LAM/MPI does not ship BLCR as part of its distribution, but does ship
the BLCR CR component which is needed to use BLCR with LAM/MPI. The
LAM/MPI User's guide should help getting that all setup properly. I'd
suggest using LAM/MPI 7.1.2 as it is the latest stable release.
