Hi, Imran;

 On an operating system the maximum number of processs is
limited by two things:

(1) The number of descriptors available for processors. A long
     time ago, linux used 256 descriptors allowing at max 256
     process (I´m not sure if it is always the case). These
     descriptors are consummed by OS process (ex. daemons) so
     we have less than that.

(2) The total virtual memory available. In a broader way, RAM
     size + swap space. The sum of process memory comsumation
     can´t exceed this limit. Again, we shoul consider the area
     ocuppied by OS and by all others process (for exemple,
     X server, windows manager etc)

 So... when you have problems on running process on a
single node you should verify these two conditions. On the
modern OS I imagine that (2) should be the main raison for failling
on process creation.
