ROMIO is a package from Argonne National Laboratory that provides an
implementation of the MPI-2 parallel file I/O chapter. If the
application you are trying to use with LAM utilizes MPI I/O, then you
need to get ROMIO to build. If it doesn't, then ROMIO is not
necessarily that important.

If you are using a recent (7.1.x) release of LAM/MPI, ROMIO should
build without problems on Tiger. Can you please send the config.log
file generated by LAM/MPI, and the standard output & error from
running LAM's configure script? That should help us figure out why
ROMIO isn't building for you.

Thanks,

Brian
