I have run LAM with applications that large, but not on a regular basis.

Are you running into a specific problem?

We regularly run Open MPI with 128 nodes (usually 256 processes). I
know that it has been run with larger than that (512 processes? I
don't remember offhand), but we don't [yet] test with those sizes
regularly.
