It's taken me too long to reply -- I apologize for that.
But I went back and double checked -- you're right, in some cases,
the 7.0.6 release would not work with IMPI as well. :-(
So just in time for Christmas, I *think* that I have fixed the IMPI
bug in both the subversion trunk and 7.1 branch. The changes at also
available in 7.1.2b30:

Could you give it a whirl and verify that it works for you?
