It turns out this is a bug in icc. Apparently the internals of libstdc++
changed recently and this breaks the Intel c++ compiler. There are a couple
of odd things.
1) It works in Fedora 4 which I would have thought had more recent libraries
than Redhat AS 4.2
2) The Intel site says the bug is fixed in version 9.0.027, but they still
offer 9.0.21 on their site.
But this is not a lam problem. Thanks for you help with tracking it down.
