To finish up this thread for the web archives:

To check the fixes, Robert downloaded the nightly tarball and assumed
that it included my SLURM fixes. However, it turns out that the
nightly LAM tarballs were erroneously not being built every night
(don't ask :-) -- my sysadmins have now fixed the problem). Robert has
now downloaded the newest beta and has verified that the newest SLURM
stuff works properly with zero padding.
