Definitely your code should work...
I tested it by curiosity on our Opteron v20z/v40z cluster running
Solaris 10,
valiron_at_h5 ~ > mpicc -xtarget=opteron -xarch=amd64 hi.c
valiron_at_h5 ~ > lamboot
LAM 7.1.1/MPI 2 C++/ROMIO - Indiana University
valiron_at_h5 ~ > mpirun -np 4 a.out
hiho! from processor 3 of 4.
hiho! from processor 0 of 4.
hiho! from processor 1 of 4.
hiho! from processor 2 of 4.

Is it the first MPI code you are experimenting on this cluster ?
Are you sure the installation and PATH are correct ?
How are you compiling your code ?
Are you using mpicc or some trick of your own ?
