I am sorry about the confusion. Let me clarify.
I configured, built and installed lam-7.1.1 with the "--without-fc"
option. That worked fine.
Then, I untarred the lamtests suite source in a diff. location than my
lam installation.
The output of the configure script and the config.log file that I sent
earlier was the result of trying to configure lamtests and not lam. (The
--without-FC was just a an experiment I tried for the lamtests
configuration when --without-fc did not work). I still have the same
problem during lamtests configuration. How do I tell the configure
script for lamtests to avoid checks for Fortran bindings?

Thanks
