i was trying to boot lam (7.1.1) from fltk (an event based userinterface
tool).

it seems a seperate lam-mpi process cannot be run with the exec/system
command i felt when i ran following in the code:

popen("lamboot","r")
//created a pipe to boot lam across the cluster of 8

i expected lamboot to return (like it normally does on the command line),
am i right in this notion ?
