Ken, thanks for your response. Indeed, I've tried leaving WHATMPI
blank, since that's what the docs recommend. I've also run most, if not
all, of the routines in BLACS/INSTALL. I recall that it confirmed that
-Df77isF2C was the correct extension to use. xsize didn't have any
surprises. The f/c sanity tests all passed. I was told not to use
-DCSameF77, and I was advised to leave TRANSCOMM blank.
