I'm not exactly sure what network topology you have (it was a bit
confusing), but I think the answer is "it depends". LAM requires (from
an IP point of view) that all hosts in a LAM universe be fully
connected. That is, I have to be able to send a TCP or UDP packet
from any host to any host and it has to get there with no extra work on
LAM's part. LAM will not explicitly determine topologies and route
around non-fully connected networks.

Other than that, we just use hostnames to determine what IPs to use
when connecting. So as long as any node in the universe can talk to
any other node and the hostname / IP addresses are all setup in a sane
way, you should be able to run LAM on interesting network layouts
without too much hassle.
