Check out the LAM/MPI Installation Guide -- I think it will provide a
much lower latency on answering your questions than waiting for replies
on this mailing list. ;-)

It has "quick start" ("For the Impatient") section as well as fully
detailed installation procedures for building from tarballs. The
default build should be trivially easy.
