How did you install LAM/MPI? From compiling a tarball or from the RPM?

We've had some unconfirmed reports that the RPM totalview support isn't
working properly, but haven't been able to verify that. From our
understanding, those who have had problems with the RPM have installed
from the tarball and all is well.
