I guess that piece of code is built on the fly by the configure script.
Also, the problem you faced with SIZE is related to the fact that the function
SIZE is an INTRINSIC function came along with the Fortran 90 language. In your
case, the unresolved reference message you got at link time arises from the
arguments you passed to the SIZE function which did not correspond to the
prototype of the INTRINSIC SIZE function.
