ok, that's weird.

I can't see a LAM + usysv problem with
  2.4.25 kernel + redhat 7.3 + LAM 7.1a1cvs20031031
or with
  2.6.10 kernel + fedora core 3 + LAM 7.2b1svn-2004-11-23

maybe OS X is buggy, or Linux is masking a LAM bug?

I changed a few lines in the code to be straight C instead of C++, but I
doubt if that changes anything. code attached.
