Yes, you must build lam with 32-bit compilers and run 32-bit builds
throughout. Aside from the lam datatype limitation, the 64-bit machine
will hang if you mix 32- and 64-bit builds. Most people would run the same
32-bit OS throughout, although there's a possibility it may work with a
mixture of 32- and 64-bit OS.
