Hi, thank you for trying to help. Really frustrating problem.
Before Init there is only a few integer declarations.
The program prints a message to terminal, and prints some data to files at
startup After the MPI_rank and MPI_size.
I will try out the debugger tips.

10 *minutes*? Anything more than a few seconds is relatively
suspicious, especially if you're only starting 2 processes.
- What are you doing before MPI_INIT?
- How do you know when your processes have started?
- Have you attached a debugger to your sleeping-like processes to see
what they're really doing?
