You still haven't given any further clues as to the validity of my WAG that
you haven't installed static pthreads support. Many people are running Red
Hat 9 without that support, which was not present in the original RH9. If
you are running Red Hat 9, you can check on line for the 3 glibc upgrade
..rpms required to obtain that support. The fact that you have the same
problem when using gcc and g++ would tend to indicate you have this
problem. The logs you supplied both indicate that you were unable to link
pthreads libraries. If you want to run RH9 without the glibc upgrade, my
WAG is that you will not be able to use -static. I don't know why people
try to run unsupported Red Hat without being willing to accept the
associated issues, and I'm beginning to suspect you are among those people.
