This should clearly not be happening.
Those two symbols should definitely be defined in the file
share/ssi/coll/smp/src/lam-ssi-coll-smp-config.h. Does this file not
exist, or is it empty?
Can you send the share/ssi/coll/smp/config.log file and the
stdout/stderr from when you ran the top-level configure?
