Sure. I was however thinking that (if you also provide the cmake/etc.
source tarball), you are only 4 commands away from having Open MPI
installed:
rpmbuild -ta cmake-x.y.z.tar.gz
rpm -ivh /path/to/cmake-x.y.z.arch.rpm
rpmbuild -ta openmpi-x.y.z.tar.gz
rpm -ivh /path/to/openmpi-x.y.z.arch.rpm

I was thinking more of other build tools when I wrote that part. For
the auto* tools things are a bit different as they are included with
most Linux distributions, FreeBSD and f.e. even in the "freeware"
collection for IRIX (freeware.sgi.com); the most important part
however is that they can be found prepackaged, which again lowers the
barrier for installation. But if cmake/etc. don't come as easily
prepackaged, they are a requirement for Open MPI and they are not very
portable or have some dependencies, then don't be surprised if people
will go away from Open MPI...
