if additional tools like jam are required to build LAM/MPI, this would
not be a problem, provided that the build process is well documented.
Boost libraries (http://www.boost.org) are using a tool called bjam. I
never had any problems with this build system.

We don't want to have binaries. We compile LAM/MPI from source using icc
and ifort on Pentium III, Pentium 4, Athlon and Xeon running Debian
Linux.
