We LAM maintainers typically change our $path in our shell startup
files (and manpath and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, if you care about such things).
You can play games with LAMHOME, but I'd advise against it -- it
usually does not do exactly what you want and therefore results in
confusion. :-\
