Two things:

1. LAM is not setup to handle that kind of scenario (but I don't think
you need it -- see #2).

2. Can you be specific about why would you want that? I'm guessing you
want to give as much processing power and available resources on the
compute notes to your applications, and don't want to waste anything on
mpirun (is that a correct assumption?).

LAM's mpirun will be blocking in a read() call for the duration of your
MPI application. So it consumes no resources, and if your MPI
application fills the memory of the node, it will be safely swapped out
until someone calls MPI_FINALIZE.

So I think there is little or no impact of having mpirun executing on
your compute notes -- especially if your MPI application is a
long-running one.
