Well, you don't actually need NIS and automount to get a MPI-based cluster
up and running. They're nice to have, but on 5 machines it's not that
hard to do it by hand.

Nguyen, you can use NFS to mount /usr/home (or wherever /home is) on the
slave nodes from the master, which effectively clones the user accounts
onto each slave node. Assuming you use ssh to drive the slave nodes, the
authorized_keys file for ssh for each user will then be the same on each
machine. Check out the tutorials for how to generate the keys and set the
ssh access up. Basic NFS is pretty easy, you just have to create an
export for the /home directory in the /etc/exports file of the master node
and mount this /home directory from an entry in the /etc/fstab file on the
slaves.

You can install and build LAM on each node separately, which might be a
good idea for your first cluster. It's more work, but it's good practice.
