I was also trying to do that and got a similar error: "xterm: Can't
execvp ." Luckily someone suggested to use dtterm instead of
xterm, and then the problem became obvious. dtterm gave a much more
informative error msg than xterm: "Could not find a.out". It turns
out that one needs to use the pathname of a.out (unless your a.out
happens to be in your home directory):
mpirun C -x DISPLAY run_xterm.csh /home/hzmonte/work/a.out
intead of just
mpirun C -x DISPLAY run_xterm.csh a.out
as suggested in the FAQ.
As an alternative, I had my run_xterm.csh amended as follows:
#!tcsh -f
set path=($path `pwd`)
xterm -T `hostname` -e $*
exit 0
I hope this would help others.
