The new PATH should be available to all shells that are started, not
only to the one where you run lamboot. For example, you could put this
is a file in /etc/profile.d just like others that exist in that
directory and you could test that any new shell that you open has the
new PATH. One thing that it is worth checking is that the shells
actually execute all files in /etc/profile.d even for non-interactive
sessions; I had some troubles on Fedora Core 1 on which (t)csh
executes those scripts in all situations, while bash does it only for
interactive sessions and thus the new PATH would not be set for
non-interactive shells (which LAM uses)....
