There is a good chunk of code in the XMPI code base for reading the trace
files; are you looking for more than that?
But if you really feel like re-writing all of that, I think that the
document that you're talking about is available at the bottom of
http://www.lam-mpi.org/software/download.php -- it's the XMPI API
documentation.
