Greetings.

Just wanted to let you all know that LAM's CVS repository will be moving
to Subversion in the next few weeks. No specific date has been set yet --
this is just a "heads up" notice. Information about Subversion and
downloads of the software can be obtained from their web site:

        http://subversion.tigris.org/

Subversion is a new version control system whose goal is to replace CVS by
fixing a bunch of CVS's more notable problems. The project just recently
hit version 1.0. We've been testing it for a month or two now and are
very happy with it. As such, we've decided to move the entire repository
(including all the history) over to Subversion.

The reason for the delay is that Subversion changes how we do backups,
what disks the repositories are located on, anonymous/read-only access
setup, etc. Our sysadmins are sorting these issues out, but it'll
probably take a few weeks before everything is finalized and all
nightly/automated scripts have been updated properly.

Once we have converted LAM to subversion, we'll probably leave the
anonymous CVS pserver up for a short grace period (a week or two) and then
take it down for good. New procedures on how to get anonymous/read-only
access to the LAM repositories will be posted on the web site when they
become available.

So consider this fair warning :-) to any of you who have CVS checkouts,
especially if those of you with local modifications. At some point in the
not-distant future, you'll have to get a new checkout from Subversion and
re-apply your changes (note that should be pretty easy; just run "cvs
diff" on your current changes and then apply those changes to the new
subversion tree with the "patch" command).
