The procedure you list below is the normal way for running LAM.
You didn't specify what version of LAM you are running -- can you tell me
what it is? I know that we had a problem with the LSF environment
variables at one point, but it's been fixed up now (I'm afraid I don't
remember in what version that was fixed).
