Hello,
We worked with PVM for many years and recently did some experimenting with
MPI. On Linux clusters we worked with LAM and on an SGI Origin system with
SGI's MPI.
One notable difference between these MPI-implementations is the -prefix
option of mpirun on SGI. It allows you to add some extra text to the output
of each process before it is printed to the screen. E.g. -prefix ' %g # '
will put the rank of a process and a hash in front of each line. This
greatly helps in printf-style debugging, we built something similar in our
PVM master process ourselves (using catching of I/O of the spawned
subprocesses).
Does LAM-MPI offer a similar function, or can we construct it ourselves ?
Would there be a general interest in this feature ?
By the way, can anyone send me a small example program that uses
MPI_Comm_Spawn ? We tried this in different ways but could not get it to
work yet.
Thanks,
Edwin
