Hi experts,
I've been having difficulties building a Linux-based
cluster.

For the moment, I just wanna configure a node and the
server and, when ready,
add new hosts to the cluster. I installed RH 7.2 on
the node and RH 8.0
on the server. Server's name is 'pete' and node's name
is 'stephy'. I wish to
use LAM-MPI, but before I need to configure rsh to let
passwordless connections.
According to me, I have properly configured
passwordless rsh authentication, but
the trouble is the next:

I can rsh from compute node (stephy) to the master
node (pete), from stephy to itself
and from pete to itself. The problem lies in going
from the master node to the compute node.
Any time that I try this I get a connection refused
error.

I have an /etc/hosts.equiv file with the names of all
the cluster's machines (pete and stephy),
I've got a $HOME/.rhosts file with the same
information, I have /xinet.d/rsh, /xinet.d/rlogin,
/xinet.d/rexec, /xinet.d/ssh files modified so that
the value "disable = yes" is set to
"disable = no", /etc/hosts.deny and /etc/hosts.allow
are empty (# Except the commentaries,
of course).

An important point is that when I execute the nmap
command from pete to stephy,
I get the next:

[root_at_pete root]# nmap -p '514' stephy

Starting nmap V. 3.00 ( www.insecure.org/nmap/ )
Interesting ports on stephy (192.168.10.3):
Port State Service
514/tcp filtered shell

Nmap run completed -- 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned
in 0 seconds

and I get the same results for the 512 and 513 tcp
ports, in fact, all the stephy's tcp
ports are filtered for pete.

When I execute the nmap command from stephy to pete,
I get the next:

[root_at_stephy root]# nmap pete

Starting nmap V. 3.00 ( www.insecure.org/nmap/ )
Interesting ports on pete (192.168.10.1):
(The 1594 ports scanned but not shown below are in
state: closed)
Port State Service
7/tcp open echo
22/tcp open ssh
111/tcp open sunrpc
512/tcp open exec
513/tcp open login
514/tcp open shell
6000/tcp open X11

Nmap run completed -- 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned
in 2 seconds

On the other hand, the output of the laminfo command
is:

Have I missed something? Can somebody help me? Thanks
a lot.
