Correct. Even across shared libraries - users are going to have to
recompile their apps :(.
One change - You can now do --enable-shared even if you build the C++
libraries and ROMIO. ROMIO will still be built static-only, but the
C++ libraries will be a shared library now.

libpmpi is no longer. That code was all folded into libmpi.

hcc, hcp, and hf77 should now be symlinks to mpicc, mpiCC, and mpif77.
They are no longer binaries by themselves. In addition, there should
be a symlink from mpiCC to mpic++.

Not really - some of this is documented in the HISTORY file and the
Installation Guide. To be honest, since we hide most all of this from
the user, we really didn't think about writing up a specific document
for packagers. As our packaging gets more complicated (with the
dynamic module support, it will be more complicated) we should probably
start to provide such a document.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
