Correct.
Note that although we only have access to so many types of machines and
operating systems, LAM/MPI should pretty much work on most POSIX
platforms.

I'm not sure what you mean here -- if there was symbol commonality between
LAM/MPI 6.3 and HP MPI, it was a fluke; as far as I know, there was never
any intention of sharing the same symbols with HP-MPI. Indeed, other than
using IMPI, there was never any plan for an MPI job running under LAM/MPI
to be compatible with an MPI job running under HP-MPI.
LAM/MPI and HP-MPI should both be source code compatible (meaning that you
should be able to compile your application with both LAM/MPI and HP-MPI),
if that helps.

What exactly are you trying to do? I guess I'm I'm not sure exactly what
you mean by "compatible with the symbol set"...?
